Definition of Equity Compensation

Equity compensation refers to the granting of ownership in a startup in exchange for services. A common example of this is when a startup grants stock options to an employee as partial compensation for their services to the company. But equity compensation can take other forms, including restricted stock, restricted stock units, and more.
